
Pool sprint is a new water sport, which takes running on a new level. Pool sprint is the new era of running. It´s training methods and equipment were invented and developed by Pyry Tamminen.
The special underwater running track and shoes enable maximum performance and running in the water by providing good grip for the feet at the bottom of the pool. Water provides efficient resistance to the runner making pool sprint an extremely efficient and interesting alternative to other exercise and top sports. Underwater running track on the video is narrow because it is a test model. In the future the real product will be wider and can even cover the whole bottom of the pool. With running track pools depth profile can be changed. When product development is ready running track can be placed in to the most pools.
At the moment Pyry Tamminen and The Foundation of Finnish Inventions are designing prototypes of underwater running track and shoes for industrial production. Also new tests will start in the january 2012.

Swim diver Ville Vahtola practising turns. He has represented Finland on the world and European championship level. Vahtola has achieved a number of Nordic and Finnish records. Vahtola also competed in a couple jumps with Joona Puhakka.

Reporter Jesse Kamras from Finnish broadcasting company YLE talking with Lasse Viren about runners training and pool sprint. Viren told that he used to run in the water as part of his training program when he was top athlete. Viren ran in the knee high water but he could see many similarities between to his training program and pool sprint and he thinks that pool sprint has many advantages as a traininig method. Viren won both 5000 and 10000 meters runs in Munhcen and Montreal olympic games in 1972 and 1976.
